COVID-19 & Reemployment Assistance in South Dakota

By April 6, 2020May 1st, 2020COVID-19

The CARES Act will expand unemployment benefits. The South Dakota Department of Labor & Regulation (DLR) is currently awaiting instructions from the federal government on how to enact unemployment programs listed in the act. The DLR will release information on their website about benefit eligibility for independent contractors, the self-employed, and business owners – all of whom will soon be able to apply for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) in South Dakota.

Also, the DLR released helpful guidance for employers as their associates begin to file for benefits. Employers can review common questions and answers about reemployment assistance at the DLR’s website:

Our office will monitor COVID-19 updates closely and will send out additional announcements as we become aware of any updates. You can also review these updates on our website at too.

Please reach out to your representative with any questions.
