California To Waive Unemployment Benefit Charges

By July 27, 2020COVID-19, SUI Tax

The California Employment Development Department has confirmed that it will not to include unemployment benefits charged related to the COVID-19 pandemic when calculating employer’s unemployment tax rates for future years.

Assembly Bill 103 states that all unemployment benefits paid relating to COVID-19 between January 27, 2020 and December 26, 2020 willl be removed from the employer’s reserve account computation, minimizing the impact to future tax rate calculations.

Additionally, employers are not to be charged for benefits paid under the Federal-State Extended Duration program, which provides up to 20 additional weeks of unemployment benefits.
