When state specialists contact on claims, they will typically attempt to confirm applicants’ identities by confirming social security numbers and birthdates. State specialists will never ask for credit card numbers, state that there is a fee associated with a claim for benefits, or request for more than the last four digits of bank account routing numbers.
If there is ever a doubt that a state specialist is on the other line, associates should not remain on the line. If a caller’s identity is not known or verified, associates should not provide information such as phone numbers, addresses, social security numbers, or personal identification numbers (PINs).
