Like us, the State Workforce Agencies (SWA’s) are monitoring the impact of the COVID-19 Virus on their business and their staff.  To this end, states have started making changes to the way they hold unemployment hearings. Information is coming in daily on the changes, we will be sending updated bulletins regularly to record any changes that we have been notified of and the potential impact to your upcoming hearings.

STATE HEARINGS STATUS COVID-19 IMPACT EFFECTIVE DATES ACTIONS UPDATED
CA Telephone Only All currently scheduled IN-PERSON hearings will be switched to a telephone hearing. All hearings scheduled after 3/11 will be scheduled by phone. No timeline on how long only telephone hearings will be scheduled. Your representative will call the state prior to the hearing to obtain the call-in information and will send call-in information to you. 11-Mar-20
CT Telephone Only All currently scheduled IN-PERSON hearings will be switched to a telephone hearing. All hearings scheduled after 3/12 will be scheduled by phone. No timeline on how long only telephone hearings will be scheduled. Your representative will call the state prior to the hearing to request a telephone hearing and will send call-in information to you. 12-Mar-20
DC Postponed The Chief Administrative Law Judge suspended all hearings until further notice due to more stringent requirements to combat the spread of coronavirus. As of 3/23/2020 You will be notified as soon once DC reschedules your case. 24-Mar-20
KS Postponed All hearings scheduled between March 23 and April 3, 2020 have been postponed due to the state offices being closed. March 23 – April 3, 2020 All hearings will be rescheduled. 19-Mar-20
NH Telephone Only All hearings have been converted to telephone hearings for the foreseeable future. No timeline on how long only telephone hearings will be scheduled. No timeline on how long only telephone hearings will be scheduled. Witness information and documentation should be faxed to the fax number on the hearing notice. 20-Mar-20
NM No Impact New Mexico will conduct hearings as normal with no expected closures or cancellations. 20-Mar-20 If New Mexico closes their offices, Judges are able to conduct hearings from home. 24-Mar-20
NY Postponed All hearings scheduled through March 31, 2020 have been postponed. March 19 – March 31, 2020 All hearings will be rescheduled. 19-Mar-20
PA Postponed As of March 26, 2020, PA has resumed hearings by phone. Previously, hearings scheduled between 3/16-31 had been postponed. March 26, 2020 Your representative will call the state prior to the hearing to obtain the call-in information and will send call-in information to you. 26-Mar-20
RI Telephone Only All hearings will be switched to telephone hearings for the foreseeable future. No timeline on how long only telephone hearings will be scheduled. Your representative will call the state prior to the hearing to obtain the call-in information and will send call-in information to you. 20-Mar-20

Mike has 30 years of experience in unemployment cost control management, and has been with Thomas & Company for 25 years. He is the primary contact with state agencies building strong relationships, lobbying for opportunities that increase quality of service and efficiencies, and insuring compliance with state specific requirements. He works with the client service team, answering technical questions related to the unemployment insurance programs administered by the individual states and oversees the processes associated with wage audits and fraudulent claim inquiries. Mike is a member of the SIDES Operations Committee and currently sits on four Operations Committee subcommittees.
